Mortgage interest rates moved higher last week. Trading was neutral throughout most of the week. The employment report released Friday was stronger than expected raising inflation concerns. The unemployment rate fell to 4.4% and the economy added 180,000 jobs. Bond prices fell and rates rose following the report. For the week, interest rates on mortgage loans moved up by about 3/8ths of a discount point. The producer price index to be released Friday will be the most important data this week. Other data due out this week includes: the Fed minutes, trade data, and consumer sentiment data.
